How to Post and Reply to Comments in RunSmart

The Comments feature lets you collaborate with your team directly within your project. You can ask questions, leave notes, explain forecast edits, and keep conversations tied to specific line items or time periods.

Where to Find Comments

On P&L and Sales Forecast data:

  1. Hover over a line item or a specific month

  2. Click the three dots (•••)

  3. The modal will open

  4. The Comments section appears at the bottom (expanded by default)

On historical P&L data:

  • Click the chat icon under a month

  • A comment-only modal will open (no editing options)

Adding a Comment

  • Type your message in the comment box

  • Click Send to post

Keep in mind:

  • Comments are limited to 500 characters

  • A character counter will show as you type

Once posted:

  • Your name and timestamp will appear with the comment

  • A purple indicator will show next to the line item to indicate a comment has been added

Replying to Comments

  • Click Reply under any comment to respond

  • Replies are grouped into a thread, making it easy to follow the conversation

  • By default, you’ll see the original comment and the most recent reply, with the option to expand the full thread

Mentioning Teammates (@mentions)

You can tag team members in a comment by typing @ + their name.

When you mention someone:

  • They’ll receive an in-app notification

  • They’ll also receive an email notification with your comment and a link to view it

Note: Email notifications are only sent when someone is @mentioned (not for regular replies)

Notifications

  • A notification badge will appear on the Comments icon in the sidebar when you’re mentioned

To manage email notifications:

  • Go to Manage Account → Profile → Notification Settings

  • Toggle “Receive email notifications for comment mentions” ON or OFF

Viewing All Comments

To see all comments in one place:

  • Click the Comments icon in the sidebar

From here, you can:

  • View all comment threads across the project

  • See where each comment was made (e.g., Advertising (P&L))

  • View the full conversation thread

  • Click “Go to Comment” to jump directly to it

Comments are sorted by the most recent activity, so you can quickly find what needs attention.
