Overview
This applies to RunSmart Pro Users only: If you're managing multiple businesses and need to connect different QuickBooks Online (QBO) accounts to their own project, you may run into an issue where QuickBooks automatically connects to the most recently used account—without prompting you to log in.
This can lead to mistakenly linking the wrong QuickBooks account to a project, especially if you're working across accounts within a short time frame.
Why This Happens
QuickBooks Online keeps your login session active in your browser. When you click "Connect to QuickBooks" in RunSmart, Intuit may automatically authorize access to the account you're currently logged into—without showing the login screen.
This can occur even if you're trying to connect a different QBO account to a new or separate project.
How to Prevent This
To ensure you're connecting the correct QuickBooks Online account:
Log out of QuickBooks Online before connecting.
Hover over the “Connect to QuickBooks” button in RunSmart. In the tooltip that appears, click the hyperlink labeled “Page.” This will open a window to Intuit where you can sign out of your current QBO session.Return to RunSmart and click “Connect to QuickBooks.”
You should now be prompted to log into the QBO account you want to connect.Proceed with authentication.
Once logged into the correct account, follow the on-screen steps to complete the connection.
Tip
If you're working with multiple QBO accounts frequently, using a private/incognito browser window may sometimes help isolate sessions and ensure you're prompted to log in every time.
