Generate a lender-ready Excel package containing your startup assumptions, financing needs, financial projections, key metrics, and supporting schedules.
StartSmart's Loan Package Builder brings together the financial information you've created in StartSmart into a single, organized Excel workbook that you can use when preparing to apply for a business loan.
Instead of downloading individual financial statements, schedules, and supporting information separately, you can select one of your StartSmart scenarios and automatically create a comprehensive financial loan package based on that scenario.
What's included in a StartSmart Loan Package?
Your loan package brings together important financial information about your planned business and its projections into a single Excel workbook.
Depending on the information you've entered into StartSmart, your package includes:
Questions & Assumptions – The underlying information and assumptions you entered when building your financial projections.
Startup Costs & Upfront Capital – A breakdown of your expected startup costs and the capital needed before opening your business.
Sources & Uses – A summary showing where the funds needed to start the business are expected to come from and how those funds are expected to be used.
Key Metrics – Important projected financial metrics, including Gross Profit Margin, Net Profit Margin, Return on Investment (ROI), and Debt Service Coverage Ratio (DSCR).
Loans – Details about loans included in your scenario, including loan amounts, interest rates, payments, and applicable loan schedules.
Headcount Plan – The positions, compensation, benefits, start dates, and other workforce assumptions included in your plan.
Income Statements – Your projected monthly income statements and annual totals.
Cash Flow Statements – Your projected monthly cash flows and annual totals.
The information included in the workbook is based on the StartSmart scenario you select when creating the package.
How to create a Loan Package
From your StartSmart project, select Loan Packages from the sidebar. You'll find it directly below DSCR Analysis.
At the top of the page, you'll see:
"Which scenario would you like to create a financial loan package for?"
Choose the scenario you want to use from the dropdown menu. This allows you to create a loan package using the particular set of financial assumptions and projections you want to present.
After selecting a scenario, the Create button will become available.
Select Create, and StartSmart will generate your financial loan package as an Excel workbook.
Why do I need to select a scenario?
StartSmart allows you to create different scenarios so you can evaluate different assumptions about your future business.
Because changing those assumptions can change your startup costs, financing requirements, revenue, expenses, cash flow, and other financial projections, each Loan Package is generated specifically from the scenario you select.
For example, if you've created different scenarios based on different sales expectations, hiring plans, expenses, or financing assumptions, you can generate a separate Loan Package for each scenario.
This also allows you to decide which scenario you want to use when preparing your financing materials.
Where can I find previously created Loan Packages?
After StartSmart generates your workbook, it will appear in the Loan Package History section on the same page.
Loan Package History keeps a record of the packages you've previously generated so you can access them again without having to recreate them.
If you create packages for different scenarios, each generated package will appear separately in your history.
How are Loan Package files named?
StartSmart automatically names each Excel workbook using your project, scenario, and the date the package was created.
The format is:
[ProjectName]_[ScenarioName]_StartSmart_LoanPackage_[MMDDYYYY].xlsx
For example, if your project is ABC Coffee, you create a package for your Main Scenario on September 12, 2026, the file would be named something similar to:
ABCCoffee_MainScenario_StartSmart_LoanPackage_09122026.xlsx
This makes it easier to identify packages you've generated for different businesses, scenarios, or dates.
Can I create more than one Loan Package?
Yes. You can generate Loan Packages for different scenarios or create an updated package after changing your assumptions and projections.
Each generated package is added to Loan Package History, allowing you to maintain access to previously created versions.
Using your Loan Package when seeking financing
The Loan Package is designed to make it easier to organize and share the financial information a lender may need when evaluating your business and financing request.
However, every lender and loan program can have different documentation requirements. Your StartSmart Loan Package should therefore be considered supporting financial documentation rather than a complete loan application.
A lender may request additional financial, business, ownership, or supporting documentation depending on the type of financing you're seeking.
